NandemoFM

This is a tool to play all of MSX games in FM sound.

System Requirements

• MSX(RAM64K),MSX2,MSX2+,MSXturboR
  If you want to play a game for MSX2 with NandemoFM, turboR is required.

• Noise channel of PSG can be only played.(v1.20)
• The driver can be located at any address. (v1.20)
• By giving arguments at boot from the disk, ROM is able to auto-start.(v1.20)

Launch

from DISK

1. Convert NANDEMOFM.dsk to a floppy disk.
2. Insert the floppy disk in a drive, and boot MSX.
3. On the command line of MSX-DOS, enter "FMBOOT".
4. While the power is on, insert the game cartridge you want to play.
   However, because there is a possibility that the MSX fails, please go at your own risk.
5. The setting of "BOOT", please change to "ROM". Then check the setting of "BOOT SLOT".
6. Press the space key, to start the game.

If you want to start after loading a ROM image file (up to 32KB) into memory, enter "FMBOOT <rom-image-file>".



In v1.20, you can specify the boot setting. FMBOOT <rom-image-file> /CONFIGSTRING "CONFIGSTRING" is a string consisting of 14 characters. If you enter "FMBOOT /" at command line, because help is displayed.

from ROM ( e.g. MegaFlashROM SCC+ SD)

1. Write FMBOOT.ROM to MFRSCC+SD.
   
   OPFXSD FMBOOT.ROM
   
   
2. Insert MFRSCC+SD in slot-1, insert the ROM you want to play in slot-2, and then boot the MSX while holding down the [SHIFT].

If you use the emulator, it is only necessary to insert FMBOOT.ROM in slot-1.
However, if using openMSX, please adjust the size of FMBOOT.ROM just to 8KB.

Settings

Select an item with the cursor up and down, change the parameters in the left and right.
When all the settings are finished, press space to start.


[tR] ... only turboR

FM chA,chB,chC ... Select tone of each FM channel.

FM VOLUME ... Specify the increment of FM sound source volume.

PSG VOLUME ... Specify the decrement of PSG sound source volume.

BIOS
• NORMAL ... Use normal BIOS. It is for debugging.
• CUSTOM[PAGE0] ... Copy BIOS to RAM(PAGE0), and rewrite WRTPSG(0093H) and KEYINT(0038H).
• CUSTOM[DRAM][tR] ... Place the same BIOS as "CUSTOM[PAGE0]" to segments for DRAM-MODE of mapper RAM.
  
  With DRAM-MODE, it is possible to rewrite completely BIOS, it does not consume even first 64KB of MAIN-RAM.
  If you have a turboR, please always select "CUSTOM[DRAM]".

BOOT
• RAM(ROM image file) ... If you launch from disk and loaded a ROM image file, please use this mode.
  
• ROM ... Boot ROM in the slot.
  
• DISK[tR] ... Reboot the MSX. All settings and FM control program is not cleared. Does not make much sense when BIOS is not "CUSTOM[DRAM]". This setting is for a disk version software.
  

BOOT SLOT ... Specify slot of BOOT.
• 00H-03H ... basic slot
• 80H-8FH ... expansion slot

CPU ... Select CPU.
• Z80 ... normal speed
  
• R800[tR] ... high speed
  However, because the access timing to OPLL would change, FM sound does not sound properly in the actual MSX machine.

PRG ADDR ... Specify the address to place FM control program.
• C000 ... Application that works even if there is only 8KB of RAM, it will work in this setting.
• D000 ... Application that works even if there is only 8KB of RAM, it will work in this setting.

• F41F ... Use memory of KBUF(F41FH)-BUF(F55EH).
  
• F956 ... Use memory of MCLTAB(F956H)-VOICCQ(FA75H).
  

OPLL SLOT ... Specify slot of OPLL(FM-PAC or MSX-MUSIC).
• 00H-03H ... basic slot
• 80H-8FH ... expansion slot
  Because it is automatically search at boot, you do not need you to set.

PRESET SETTING ... I have prepared the settings that you use frequently as a preset. When you press [1]-[4], switch to each setting.

• [1]RAM /CUSTOM BIOS[PAGE0] ... ROM image file(up to 32KB) for MSX1
• [2]MEGAROM/CUSTOM BIOS[PAGE0] ... All ROM for MSX1
• [3]RAM /CUSTOM BIOS[DRAM][tR] ... ROM image file(up to 32KB)

NandemoFM Converter is a tool to convert a ROM image file to a new ROM image file including NandemoFM driver.
The ROM image file that was converted by the tool works in stand-alone, it is not necessary to boot the NandemoFM in advance.

Please download NandemoFM_110.zip, and start "FMCONV.exe" in "forPC" folder.



After you have the setting, please drag and drop ROM image files. Original ROM type Normal ... Non Megarom Megarom (KONAMI) ... Megarom of Konami Megarom (KONAMI with SCC) ... Megarom of Konami with SCC Megarom (ASCII8 Mapper) ... Megarom other than Konami Megarom (ASCII16 Mapper) ... Megarom other than Konami (Please try this if you do not work with ASCII8) BANK1 control This option is whether or not to switch the BANK1 of Megarom. Normally Please choose the "No Change". If the title is not working, please try to change this option. No Change... BANK1 is not switched Fixed to 4000H... BANK1 is placed only in 4000H Care for all address... When you start it while holding down the SHIFT, you can always issue the setup screen.

• New ROM image file, than the original ROM image file, is increased 8KB-16KB.
• When you write this ROM image file to MegaFlashROM, please use the options corresponding to the ROM type after conversion.("/A8","/K5",etc)
• In blueMSX or openMSX, when you set the ROM image file to SLOT, please change the ROM type.
